Sliding into the Mommy Trap

From: Nichole in NJ

Question

Professors,

I have been living with my boyfriend for roughly a year and a half. I am afraid that I am becoming a mommy. He occasionally cooks (I go to school some nights, so he cooks when I can't), but I can't let him do the laundry or clean.

What can I do to prevent this from getting worse?

Good News! We may have caught the condition in its early stages. Showing concern early like this means there’s hope.

You must “let” him do some laundry. Start out slow and steady. We know of some couples where the guy does his clothes and she does hers. Perhaps ineffective, but the advantages are he doesn’t screw up her clothes and she’s not responsible for his! Besides, a little ineffectiveness is a good thing in this world of the uber-capable-Mommy.

Buy him his own box of Tide and you're one load closer to a Mommy-Free world!
