Ask the Professor Q&A
Location: Sahalee- NEC World Golf Championships
Reporting: Field Agent Cody

Professors...
Some observations from "The Field"...in this case from the NEC World Golf Championships held last week at Sahalee, which translated is Northwest Coast native for "High, Heavenly Ground"...a strong indicator that even when one delves into the roots of the glorious game of golf, at essence, there was a group of guys, in this case, stand-up kinda fellas who even referred to themselves as "braves", but, but nevertheless recognized the wisdom of carving out some hallowed ground where they could escape the rigors of domesticity for 5-6 hours at a whack.
I'm convinced that Sahalee's tight fairways first served as clearings that the tribesmen created long-distance spear chucking and arrow launching in the privacy afforded by the dense forest cover...no doubt experimenting with and debating the merits of the new Doug Fir shafts over traditional Red Cedar.
Anyway...what I, Dr. Will Cody, Golf Therpist, observed was the make-up of the gallery in attendance...EASILY 95% guys, with the VERY occasional husband-wife twosome or the frazzled looking guy who dragged his girlfriend along.
Soooo... here's the curious and troubling thing I observed at the NEC tourney:
Guess who made up the vast majority of those tournament marshalls who had the duty of "hushing" the masses (of males) surrounding the tees and greens when Tiger, Phil, Rich, Sergio etc. addressed their ball? Yep...stern-looking, vigilant, "No-nonsense"-swathed, veteran "Mommies", who were obviously in THEIR glory... being able to completely silence 100's of men by simply raising their two arms, Moses-like, right there in the midst of this "High, Heavenly Ground"! This "weight transfer" made Tiger's storied power-move look like a chunked wedge in comparison!!
One can only envision that original band of Northwest Coast braves, now long-departed, sitting up there in the real High, Heavenly Ground, turning to the Elders and asking...."What Happened?"
